HAPPENINGS

Le Cafe Carla

3350 NE Indian River Dr, Jensen Beach Fl. 772-444-3976

There is a new place in town! It is quite a surprise, like a quick trip to France! It is a cafe with great coffee, French pastries, quiche and crepes. Opened every day but on Tuesday evenings. Carla lights up the evening with her jazz ensemble. Menu remains the same but they are obtaining a wine license and you are invited to BYOB for now. You may remember Carla Holbrook who has sung at Jensen Beach for years and has quite a following (well deserved).  We would sure like to see her attempt at bringing a little class to the neighborhood to be a success, so please check it out. They are a work in progress, but what a fun v

The Social Committee invited friends of the Monins for a private party to give thanks for all of their support,  They promise they are not going far away, We will miss them anyway. Our gratitude.

The Social Room is a great place to find how we can help keep our beaches and waters the way we would like to leave them to the next generation. Ann Ross is a great resource of information and we thank her for keeping us aware of what we can do to help, Than you Annie!

HISTORY OF THE EASTER BUNNY

The Bible makes no mention of a long-eared, short-tailed creature who delivers decorated eggs to well-behaved children on Easter Sunday; nevertheless, the Easter bunny has become a prominent symbol of Christianity's most important holiday.  The exact origins of this mythical mammal are unclear, but rabbits, known to be prolific pro creators and are an ancient symbol of fertility and new life.  According to some sources, the Easter bunny first arrived in America in the 1700s with German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania and transported their tradition of a egg laying hare.  Their children made nests in their caps and bonnets in which this creature could lay its colored eggs.  Eventually, the custom spread across the U.S. The children often left out carrots for the bunny in case he got hungry from all his hopping.

Easter is a religious holiday, but some of the custom, such as Easter eggs, are likely linked to pagan festivals celebrating Spring.  One explanation for this custom is that the eggs were formerly a forbidden food during the Lenten season, so people would paint and decorate them to mark the end of the period of penance and fasting, then eat them on Easter as a celebration.

Easter egg hunts and egg roll are two popular egg-related traditions. The first official White House egg roll occurred in 1878, when Rutherford B. Hayes was president.  The event has no religious significance, although some people have considered egg rolling symbolic of the stone blocking Jesus' tomb being rolled away, leading to his resurrection.

Easter is the second best-selling candy holiday in America after Halloween.  Among the most popular sweet treats associated with this day are chocolate eggs and jelly beans.  The top-selling non-chocolate Easter candy has been marshmallow peeps.

EASTER QUESTIONS (ANSWERS BELOW)

  1.  Why did the bunny eat the wedding ring?
  2.  What do you get if you cross a rabbit with an insect?

As many of us will be leaving for our northern homes soon, this will be our last issue until we all start gathering next winter. We are praying that we will all be well and that the pandemic will be behind us enough that we can begin to gather and celebrate in our Social Room. Until then, stay safe, stay well and mostly importantly remain grateful for this little bit of paradise that we call home. Thanks for your support.
